I was a carer up until my husband passed away in June last year. I received carers allowance from 2014, but nothing else. Is there any grants that I may be entitled to request for this time, as unfortunately with his passing I have got into a bit of financial difficulties. I don’t currently work, as I am trying to sort out my own mental health after this and unfortunately I am only 61 so too young for state pension. Many thanks for your help.

Regarding financial assistance, there may be several avenues you could explore:
1. Bereavement Support Payment: In the UK, this is a one-off, tax-free payment for widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners. Eligibility criteria include your age, your late husband's National Insurance contributions, and when he passed away. You can find more information and apply through the UK government's website.
2. Universal Credit: This is a payment to help with living costs, including housing, for those on low incomes or out of work. As you're not currently working and are experiencing financial difficulties, you may be eligible for Universal Credit. You can check your eligibility and apply through the UK government's website or visit your local Jobcentre Plus.
3. Council Tax Reduction: You may be eligible for a reduction in your council tax bill based on your income and circumstances. Contact your local council to inquire about this.
4. Charitable Grants: There are various charities and organisations that provide financial assistance to individuals in need, especially those who have recently experienced bereavement. You can search for relevant charities or use online tools like Turn2us to find out what support might be available to you.
5. Pension Credit: Even though you're not yet eligible for the state pension, you may still be eligible for Pension Credit if you have a low income. This could provide you with additional financial support.
It's advisable to seek advice from a welfare rights advisor or a Citizens Advice Bureau, who can provide personalised guidance based on your circumstances and help you navigate the application processes for any benefits or grants you may be entitled to. Remember, it's okay to ask for help during difficult times, and there are support systems in place to assist you.
